I’ve lived in Atlanta long enough (20 years!) to consider myself Southern, even though I was born and raised in Oklahoma. The South has a different appeal than many destinations.  Most visitors that travel outside Atlanta see the Appalachian mountains in the north, the Atlantic coast and barrier islands in the East and the Okeefenokee swamp in the South and understand why we love this state.  Here is a fascinating website FULL of Atlanta historical images next to modern day photos of the same spots.  It’s addictive!   http://atlantatimemachine.com
